Etcetera on a Rainy Sunday Morning

In the New York Times this morning, there was an article about an auction of the late Lilly Pulitzer's belongings.  (In case you don't know, she designed simple cotton shifts made out of bright florals; Jackie O. was known to wear them, and they're still sold.)

Here was a lady who upholstered her Sub-Zero fridge in one of her fabrics, who owned a 7' replica of the Statue of Liberty, who had "the resources to be as madcap as she wanted."  It sort of depresses me that even if I had the resources, I wouldn't let myself go to that mad, creative extent.

Here's the line that really got me:  "In keeping with Pulitzer's unrestrained exuberance in all things, her house was a welter of mismatched objects held in harmony, though just barely, by the conviction of her eye" (my italics).   I love that.

My sister was here on Friday bearing tile and counter samples for the remodel of  our woefully outdated bathroom. She also brought Jerry what she called a "down payment" on his Christmas present, batches of cookies.

Here he is receiving the gift.

And here he is when told he'll have to share:

An update on the little boy diagnosed with cancer, whose father died a few weeks ago.   Here's what his mother had to say on Caring Bridge:

I am happy to share that the results of EZ's last two scans reveal that the chemo has currently stopped his cancer from progressing. It has also reduced his tumors by 50% in size. This is a good start to a very long marathon of treatments that EZ will endure. Dr. Month, EZ's oncologist, shared that while his lungs and spine look worse to the eye, the bones will take the longest to heal. His lungs just look worse because he had a chest tube (from original biopsy) and we gave him a terrible cough and cold...To all sending your distant healing and prayers, we are deeply grateful and thankful for each and every bit of support, hope and love we are receiving...
